SSC Tuatara Preview

Not too long ago SSC unveiled the successor to the Ultimate Aero. It promises more power, less weight and a new production car top speed world record. For the past few months it has been referred to as the Ultimate Aero II or Next Generation due to the company not revealing the name of the beautiful hypercar.

But finally the time has arrived and they revealed the name: Tuatara.
The Tuatara (pronounced twu‐tar‐ah) is named after a lizard in New Zealand that has the fastest evolving DNA in any animal. This is very fitting as SSC is the fastest evolving supercar manufacturer. Most other supercar manufacturers(Koenigsegg, Pagani, Bugatti, Gumpert, etc) will use the same basic car for over 10 years. After only 3 short years of production of the Ultimate Aero, SSC is producing a brand new vehicle. Everything from the body to the frame is new. The body is designed by famed American car designer, Jason Castriota. He is known for cars such as the Maserati Birdcage 75th, Ferrari Pininfarina P4/5, Ferrari 599GTB, and many more. While the Ultimate Aero used a traditional steel space frame the Tuatara uses a carbon monocoque, reducing the weight to a claimed 2600lbs.

Check out the video from company founder, Jerod Shelby, revealing the new name as well as some pictures of the Tuatara.
